LINE SKIS & NWAC make for More Funner, More Safer Backcountry Experience

NWAC season kickoff event to be held Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at evo

Seattle, Wash. (Sept. 30, 2015)Line, makers of innovative, athlete-driven skis, is proud to announce its partnership with the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC). As part of the partnership Line will provide ski equipment for NWAC field staff and help promote the dissemination of avalanche information and education including Snowbash, a season kickoff party held on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at evo in Seattle, Washington.

“Now that Line has officially entered the backcountry ski market we want to support those individuals who work hard to inform the public about backcountry avalanche conditions,” said Line Global Brand Director Josh Malczyk, “Of course the gear people use to enjoy the backcountry is important, but nothing is more important than checking the avalanche forecast on a regular basis so travel can be as safe as possible.”

The new Line Sick Day Tourist ski, Snake Skins and Pollard Paint Brush adjustable length ski pole were chosen by NWAC for their lightweight, durability and exceptional downhill performance. It will allow the NWAC team to climb, traverse and descend easily and efficiently when performing regular avalanche assessments.

“Line’s new backcountry ski gear will help our team travel efficiently in and around avalanche terrain this winter while we evaluate the snowpack,” said NWAC Program Director Scott Schell. “Having Line’s support getting the word out about avalanche conditions for backcountry users will also be a huge step in the right direction to create more awareness of backcountry dangers.”

Join the NWAC and Line for Snowbash at evo Seattle Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 from 5pm-10pm. Attendees will have the chance to win some new gear from Line, enjoy food from Peach & the Pig food truck, beer from Pyramid, Fremont, and Aslan Brewing and live music from DJ OCNotes. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Northwest Avalanche Center.

Andy Parry’s “Tell A Friend Tour”

December 18th, 2014 - Posted by in Event Coverage, LINE Skis News, LINE Team News

The Tell A Friend Tour is coming! The Tell A Friend Tour is coming!

Don’t know what the Tell A Friend Tour is? Well, we went straight to the source – Andy Parry – to get you all the need-to-know-info!

Read on >>

What is the Tell A Friend Tour, Where is it headed and Who’s going?

Tell A Friend Tour is a freeskiing park tour that travels to resorts film, ski with fans, and then hold a free raffle/pizza party.  This year we are visiting resorts in VT, MA, CT, PA, WV, OH, MN, and WI.  Ross Imburgia, Charlie Dayton, Ian Compton, Cole Drexler, Allan Lam, and other Line Skis regional riders.

Why? Why create the Tell A Friend Tour?

Over the last seven years of filming Line Traveling Circus,  we visited  a lot of resorts other people never really go to. A lot of these places had tons of kids that are really into freeskiing but they aren’t really on any ones radar.  These skiers are the bread and butter of the ski industry and it only makes sense to bring a ski event directly to them.

TAFT represents what freeskiing was when I started in 2002.  Fun, but also serious about progression because your hungry for it.  It was about learning a new trick with a bunch of friends and pushing each other because it was fun.  None of us really went out of our way to “train” for comps but still competed at local events, and used them for a source of community more then anything.  It’s true freeskiing, and that what I want to show the next generation.  Not comp skiing, not film skiing – just freeskiing.

With the Traveling Circus, you’ve criss-crossed the country multiple times – What are the top five bits of advice you’d give anyone who’s about to head out on the open road?

1.  Need dental floss?  Rip a small strand of the elastic out of a sock.
2.  Don’t be a tool to fast food.  Find a grocery store.
3.  Download audio books for long trips.
4.  When driving at night place a small dimly lit LED over your head.
5.  Avoid drinking things like Monster, RockStar and Redbull  All the sugar and other stuff they put in those will just make you crash harder, and feel sick.  Slowly sip coffee, and get a 5 hour energy.

What’s your favorite stop?

I’m really looking forward to all the stops.  Each one is going to have a different crowd of skiers, and things set up.  Can’t really say I have a favorite stop but last year we had the best showing at Ski Sundown, CT and had a really good crew of kids at Butternut, MA.

In 140 characters or less – Why should we go to TAFT?

Come to TAFT to have fun skiing, eat pizza, and win free stuff!

Will Wesson’s “Summer on Snow”

October 17th, 2014 - Posted by in Event Coverage, LINE Skis News, LINE Team News

Missing those warm summer days? Are you depressed with the onset of fall and the approach of winter?

Neither are we. For those of you, like us, who had to brave the heat of summer and anticipate the first snowfall, it can be an awful waiting game. Thankfully, Will Wesson’s international adventures in pursuit of snow kept us satiated!

Will’s travels are documented in his five part series Summer On Snow, featured by Freeskier Magazine and presented below.

Hopefully it tides you over until your local hill is up and running!

Episode 1 – Will at Woodward Copper for Line/Full Tilt Week

Armed with nothing but a couple POV cameras, Will plans to document his travels around the world, focusing on culture, travel and skiing (duh!). The first episode finds Will at Woodward Copper for Line/Full Tilt week with Garrett Russell, Trevor Jansen, Jon Hartman, Erik Olson, Josh Wong and tons of stoked campers. Enjoy the video above and be sure to keep an eye out for more from Will throughout the summer.

Episode 2 – Hot Laps @ Windells Camp

In the second episode of his summer video blog, Will Wesson heads to Windells Camp for some hot laps atop the glacier. Upon arrival, he meets up with the likes of Chris Logan, Karl Fostvedt, Andy Parry, Magnus Granér, Tosh Peters, Jason Arens and many more. The crew proceeds to get tricky up and down the lane with tech rails, impressive lines, and good ol’ fashion summertime vibes.

Will would like to extend his thanks Catman Andy Parry for filming him. You rule, Andy!

Episode 3 – Les Deux Alpes for Kumi Yama Slopestyle

Will Wesson once again proves that he’s having a kickass summer in the latest episode of his Summer on Snow video blog. This time, he heads to France’s Les Deux Alpes for what ended up being the final installment of the Kumi Yama slopestyle contest. While weather derailed some of his ski plans, the crew was still able to spend their down days cliff jumping, wakeboarding and taking in the French countryside. Be sure to watch Will’s awesome wakeboard wipeout, which takes place right around the 1:50 mark.

Episode 4 – Whistler for Line Week @ Camp of Champions

The dude doesn’t stop. From Colorado to Oregon, Whistler, France and beyond, Will is skiing his ass off this summer. The latest episode of his video blog finds him in Whistler, taking advantage of the awesome set up at Camp of Champions for Line Skis week. Featuring Max Hill, Dom Laporte, Rob Heule (and his alter ego, Blading Bert), Erik Olson and many more, the edit sums up all there is to love about summer skiing.

Episode 5 – Retreat to South America

Between Oregon, Colorado, Whistler, various areas throughout South America and beyond—Will Wesson has been traveling the globe in style in search for summertime shredding. The results? Incredibly successful.

In the fifth and final installment of “Summer on Snow,” Wesson retreats to South America to get the goods and catch some air with Alexi Godbout and company. Enjoy watching the crew as they flaunt their skills and receive a variety of hearty Chilean face shots.

World Heli Challenge – Vote!

August 22nd, 2014 - Posted by in Event Coverage, LINE Team News

We’ve got a couple rad dudes looking to get your vote in order to secure a spot at the World Heli Challenge. Take a look at the entries below and then head over and give ’em a vote!

Team Vacation / VOTE HERE

All Us In Winterland – Lucidity / VOTE HERE

Team Australia / VOTE HERE

About the Call Up from the World Heli Challenge:

Fourteen teams are in the chase for just two sought-after slots in the new format World Heli Challenge competition and a ‘money-can’t-buy’ ticket to 9 days of adventure including two heli-accessed backcountry competition days in the mountains around Aoraki Mt Cook and Lake Ohau in New Zealand.

Big mountain freeriding skiers and boarders from Australia, New Zealand and around the globe answered the World Heli Challenge “Call Up” sending in their “Big Adventures/Big Rewards” videos to win entry into this year’s new-look event.

One team will be chosen by a “People’s Choice” online vote earning the chance to take home the $10,000 first prize purse. The World Heli Challenge judging panel will pick the opposing team to take them on in the new head-to-head format.

“We have been blown away by the quality and quantity of entries for this first ever “Call Up”. The edits are awesome and our judges are going to have a tough time narrowing the field” said event founder and director Tony “Harro” Harrington.

“It was a big step to change up the format for the competition moving it to a team dynamic and opening up the entry online with the “Call Up” but it’s paid off and I’m stoked to see the athletes and filmers have embraced it. The entries are fun, celebrate the talents of the athletes and filmers and are super creative – it’s what the event is all about.”

Some World Heli Challenge veterans are entering to defend their titles, Sam Smoothy and Fraser McDougall have buddied up and three-time champion Will Jackways and skier Charlie Lyons with Riley Bathurst filming are in the mix also. Australian duo Watkin McLennan (Mt Buller) and Charlie Timmins (Perisher) have thrown down the gauntlet forming “Team Australia” with Joey Corcoran behind the camera. Snowboarders Jake Koia and Ryan Teine are in the hunt as are NZ clubfielders Cam McDermid and Tom Brownlee amongst others.

All “Call Up” video entries will be posted on Friday 22 August and voting will kick off here on the site at approx. 4pm NZ time/6pm AEST. Voting will close at the same time on Friday 29 August when the final votes will be tallied to determine the “People’s Choice” team to go through to the World Heli Challenge.

“The teams are frothing and stirring up their supporters to vote for them so they get to Mt Cook and have a crack at the prize money,” said Harrington. “We’ve set the polling so people can vote daily and really get behind the team they want to win.”

The two winning teams will be officially announced in Wanaka, NZ on 4 September.
The World Heli Challenge is held between 7-15 September based at Lake Ohau Lodge.
